Damien Hirst splits from Gagosian Gallery - News detail - Flash Art

19.12.2012

Damien Hirst’s relationship with his dealer gallery has come to an end after 17 years. And just one year after the artist’s unprecedented exhibition of his spot paintings at all 11 Gagosian galleries around the world. In a statement released from the gallery, it was said that Damien’s decision was amicable: "It has been a great honour to work with Damien over the last 17 years, culminating with the worldwide showing of the Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011 at all 11 Gagosian galleries earlier this year. His retrospective at Tate Modern in the summer was the most popular solo show in the history of the museum, drawing close to half a million visitors – an extraordinary achievement. We wish him continued success for the future."

Hirst’s departure follows news that another Gagosian star, Jeff Koons, would be holding an exhibition at rival David Zwirner Gallery in May next year. It has also been reported that Yayoi Kusama was “in the process” of leaving Gagosian.

Carol Vogel of the New York times writes that some see Hirst’s announcement, and other similar defections from prominent galleries, as part of a larger art world trend. Although Gagosian is the most powerful art dealer, the artists he represents are so self-propelled that they arguably don’t need the gallery support. Vogel also points out that while Hirst’s most commercially lucrative period was between 2005 and 2008, it appears that the artworks he made during those peak years are now selling for 30 percent less than their original prices. White Cube will continue to represent Damien Hirst internationally through their galleries in London, Hong Kong and Sao Paulo.

Rolling Stone magazine announced the New album by Rock Legend Jimi Hendrix / Showbiz News

Jimi Hendrix took his music in new, experimental directions in the late 60s – and this work has now made its way onto an album.

Jimi Hendrix’s official website said People, Hell And Angels would be coming out on March 5.

It follows Jimi Hendrix in 1968 and 1969 as he worked on material away from his band The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

His website said the tracks suggest new, experimental directions, with Hendrix toying with horns, keyboards, percussion and a second guitar.

Rolling Stone said the guitarist had been considering these new sounds for First Rays Of The New Rising Sun, the planned double-album follow-up to Electric Ladyland.

It features an image of the album cover, displaying a black and white portrait of Hendrix wearing a military-style jacket and scarf.

The Rolling Stone magazine said: “The album artwork is simple, yet as distinct as Jimi Hendrix’s signature guitar wails. Be experienced yet again.”

Hendrix is generally considered to have been one of the most important musicians of the 20th century.

He was instrumental in developing the previously undesirable technique of guitar amplifier feedback, and had his initial success in Europe rather than the United States.

Hendrix was a headline act at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970, before dying from drug-related asphyxia at the age of 27.

It is quite amazing how "they" find the lost tapes, the lost album, left in a shed, found in the attic, tapes retrieved from a dumpster. Forty plus years later, we have a new album. Looking forward to it!

Illicit 'Drop Vodka'

Food Alert: for Action

Ref 03/2011

The public will wish to be aware that illicit Drop Vodka 70cl has been discovered on sale in the UK.
A number of contraventions have been identified with this product:

  • The product does not contain enough alcohol to be called vodka. The Spirit & Drinks Regulations 2008 state that vodka should be no less than 37.5% ABV. Samples of Drop Vodka taken by local authorities have detected levels of 28.6% ABV, which is well below the advertised ABV stated on the bottle.
  • There are a number of labelling issues, particularly the lack of manufacturer’s details for traceability purposes.
  • There is a food safety concern in that products sampled by local authorities have identified the presence of Propan-2-ol and other substances that can be potentially damaging to health.

To date, the illicit bottles of vodka have been found on sale in England and Wales, specifically in the towns of Scunthorpe, Norwich, Wakefield, Leeds, Salford, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Milton Keynes, Potters Bar, Aldershot, Colchester and Cardiff.

The levels of Propan-2-ol detected in the Drop Vodka product render the product a health risk. This makes the product unsafe for consumption under Article 14 of Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002.

No food business operator has been identified as the owner of the Drop Vodka brand, therefore distribution information is not available. Local authorities have typically found products on sale in small independent retailers, corner shops, petrol stations etc. If further information on distribution becomes available, local authorities will be advised accordingly.

Identification of the illicit product:

To date, photographs of two different Drop Vodka labels have been received. One proclaims to be bottled in Italy, the other in France. Photographs are attached to this alert.

Drop Vodka, 70cl
Bottled in Italy or France

Main distinctive marks:

  • The duty stamp does not fluoresce under UV light
  • The duty reference on the illicit bottles A000000000618 belongs to Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd. Drop Vodka is not a Glen Catrine product
  • The barcode 0123456789 is not a valid bar code
  • No spirit manufacturer's lot number on bottle
  • No manufacturer's name and address on the label
  • Front and rear labels are self-adhesive
  • Punt mark on bottles show bottle made by 'Ol glassware'
  • The general print quality of the labels is poor

Action to be taken by local authorities:

The product detailed above does not comply with the requirements specified in Article 14 of Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002 due to the lack of adequate labelling to facilitate the products’ traceability and the presence of various substances that are not intended for human consumption.

Local authorities are requested to identify and make contact with relevant retailers in their area to make them aware of this issue. If products are found during the course of their routine inspections, enforcement officers should ensure that they are withdrawn from sale and destroyed, if necessary using powers under the Food Safety Act 1990.

Local authorities should report any finding of Drop Vodka by sending a completed Intelligence Report Form to the FSA's dedicated food fraud mailbox: foodfraud@foodstandards.gsi.gov.uk.

Intelligence Report Forms can be downloaded from the Agency's website at the link below.

Messages relating to Drop Vodka have already been circulated via TS Interlink; however, local authorities may wish to consider the use of local publicity, where appropriate.

The JFK assassination: a complete overview: facts, theories, conspiracies - YouTube

The last ten to fifteen minutes perhaps of this lecture are actually very interesting. Jerry Kroth touches upon a Jungian interpretation of the assassination of JFK. He talks about the shadow side of Camelot, and how the presidency, was undermined very possibly by the forces brought to bear by Robert Kennedy and his ruthless pursuit of the mafia, and both brothers apparent disregard for the "old" power structure. They were a new young force coming into government, but perhaps failed to realize that the forces ranging against them were too powerful. The Kennedy family have this aura of mystery about them, and it seems that this mystery is possibly fed by the dark side of the family's activities. This is perhaps why they hold such a fascination for many people in the world, even today, even almost fifty years later.

BBC News - Five Minutes With: Jamie Oliver

Yes, great, Jamie comes across as really natural, he obviously his right under the media spotlight, yet manages to not be petulant, irritated, or egotistical.
He is courteous, sharp and bright, if perhaps a bit weary looking.
He admits that he employs over six thousand people. That is a great responsibility for a pretty young person. He obviously has a great PR team.
He has done all this with a bright and breezy manner, casual de-mystification of the cooking process, and maintains a boyish, charm. Great clip.
