BBC News - Colin Firth on being Prince Albert in The King's Speech

He was really wounded by his brother's jibes at him, stressed by the war which likely hastened his early death, and was viewed as a possible threat to the throne had he been allowed to return to the UK after abdicating. People who met Edward and Mrs. Simpson years later, had the impression that he knew he had blown his chance to be something great, and instead became a member of the social circuit. Princess Margaret become something similiar perhaps, not having a real function, they existed on being a royal "celebrity".
