Flash flooding alert for Melbourne | The Australian

MELBOURNE is on alert for flash flooding today with soaking rain already falling in the state's northwest and far west.

Dimboola is awash after receiving 112mm of rain in the past 24 hours while Horsham has copped just over 100mm.

The biggest falls in Melbourne have been around the airport with 24mm and Essendon with 14mm.

Firefighters pulled two cars from a flooded section of Dudley St in west Melbourne this morning after the motorists had attempted to drive through the water.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for Melbourne which could be accompanied by flash flooding and thunderstorms.

"We do have a severe weather warning for flash flooding," duty forecaster Chris Godfred said.

"The fact that the air mass is so humid means there is the potential for some very heavy rain and that's where the risk of flash flooding stems from."

The State Emergency Service (SES) says up to 150mm of rain is likely to fall over the next three days.

Flood watches have been issued for most of the state, with thunderstorm activity also a possibility in the central, western and northwestern areas.

The rain is expected to ease tomorrow but will return on Friday with heavy rains with strong winds and the potential for further flash flooding.

I don't know if this is a repetitive cycle for Australia, but connecting the events here to global changes in temperature, real not imagined, building pressures under the earth, earthquakes, the volcano last spring, one might pose the question is the earth undergoing a huge change?
