Apparently one of the reporters was paid to follow Prince William,
David Beckham, critics of the News of the World, and up to a hundred
different public figures. On one level, one could say that the ends justify
the means. On the other hand, if you were in the position of the celebrity
on a personal level, I would say the actions of this newspaper were
extremely intrusive. Unfortunately, it is a level of reality that news has to
be fresh, insightful, dramatic and timely, the News of the World, often known as
the "News of the screws", is in a very competitve marketplace, (or was), and
needed this level of information, to stay current, active and alive, but as one
of the journalists admitted in the last few months, he "lost his moral compass".
Just about says it all.
