BBC News - Retailers fearing grim Christmas

Media_httpnewsbbcimgc_qcyzx

Ouch, Marks and Spencers is reporting that sales are not strong for this time of year, and actually has absorbed manufacturer increased costs rather than raise their prices. It is being noted too that many retail outlets, are "thinning" out food items, for example five apples instead of six at the same price, to keep food costs stable. It is clear that things are not easy all the way around.
Especially with the price of fuel in the UK, it was noted that 66p in every £1 on average, may go to pay tax on the product. The government in tight times, witll traditionally raise taxes to pay for increased social support, however, to stimulate the economy, you need business, jobs, and a reduced tax burden to free up money. Have not two major wars or uprisings, been resolved in the oil producing part of the world in the last decade, and yet fuel is one of the expenses that continues to strangle the economy.
